2016/09/16

Day 3 - 16/09/2016
Schooner trip on Bluenose II - cancelled!  Generator problems for two days1 :0(

We had a stroll around the town again, it seriously is one of the most beautiful places that I have seen.

We booked a sailing trip instead, out in to the Atlantic for 2.5 hours.  It was very enjoyable but a bitterly cold wind

Once ashore again we had a meal in a local restaurant - scallops and sweet potato fries for me and this for Ian.......................

Two pieces of battered fish, breaded scallops, breaded 'shrimps' (large prawns), fries, oh, and a side salad!

Firstly I hope this is not too boring, feel free to read or skip but it is primarily our diary to keep.  I hope that you enjoy it

Days 1 & 2
14/15th September 2016

After a good night in our Heathrow hotel (upgraded), we caught the Hoppa bus to the airport and had a trouble free check in.  We made our way to the lounge that we had booked and had a light breakfast.

Our plane was very slightly delayed but the 6 hour flight was uneventful and we arrived at Halifax Airport on time.  Within a very few minutes of disembarking we were through Customs and out in to the complex

where we had a two hour wait for Ground Transportation to The Lord Nelson Hotel.  We had a really lovely room there with THE most comfortable bed ever!

We were up at 4.30am (8.30am at home) so we had a coffee and got showered and dressed before going for a walk in the city.  We stopped at a little coffee shop for breakfast and walked back to the hotel via the stunning Public Park opposite the hotel

We went back to the hotel to pack up our overnight things as we had booked a cab to take us to Upper Sackville to pick up the RV.

After unpacking our suitcases we headed off to Lunenburg (60km) along Fishermen's Memorial Highway, over the Mush-a-mush river.

Lunenburg is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and The Christmas Tree capitol of the world - the air smells of Christmas!

Unfortunately we also saw our first roadkill - a possum (later we saw more and a beaver, birds and a squirrel which may or may not have actually been alive before committing suicide under our wheels1  Ooops!

We arrived at the campground at 4.30 after stopping at Sobey's and Dollarama (yes, as tacky as it sounds!  Loved it!) and lunch in Subway.  We got all hooked up and had our first cup of tea in 3 days! Mmm mmm!

The evening was spent in Lunenburg, I had walked 7.5km by the time we got back.  It is a beautiful town and tomorrow we are booked on to a trip on Bluenose II, a schooner, for a sail around the area.

Ahhh, here we go.

Everything is booked and we have 6.5 weeks to go until we set off for a night at The Lord Nelson Hotel, Halifax, Nova Scotia for the beginning of another epic holiday touring around in a 25' RV!
